Before and after photos of Spaghetti O, a rescue dog who recovered from severe skin wounds and hair loss.

When Spaghetti O was found wandering alone near Atlanta, Georgia, her little body told a heartbreaking story.

She was this squatty, low-rider, piglet-shaped little girl with sad eyes and skin that looked like it had been in agony for far too long.

She had no family looking for her. No collar. No one coming to claim her.

Her eyes were crusted. Her body was nearly hairless. Her skin was covered in scabs, open sores, wounds, and angry inflammation. She was full of worms. And the heartbreaking truth was that this kind of neglect didn’t happen overnight.

Spaghetti O had clearly been suffering for a very long time.

Her skin had become one giant source of pain.

Imagine if the largest organ on your body—your skin—constantly burned, itched, stung, and hurt. Imagine never being able to get comfortable. Never getting a break from it. Never being able to escape the pain because the pain was covering your entire body.

Day after day.

And somehow, despite all of it, Spaghetti O was still gentle.

She would rest her little head against the kennel bars and quietly watch the world go by.

She wasn’t asking for much.

She just needed someone to finally help her.

We Knew We Had to Get Her Out

The moment we saw Spaghetti O, we knew we wanted to be those people.

We wanted her out of that kennel and into the hands of people who could begin putting her back together.

We wanted her to have soft blankets. Good food. Medication. Veterinary care. A comfortable place to sleep.

Most of all, we wanted this little girl to know what it felt like to wake up one morning and not hurt.

And thanks to our incredible community, we were able to say the words we had been waiting for:

Spaghetti O was SAFE.

She went straight into the care of Dr. Terry and her incredible team, where her healing finally began.

For perhaps the first time in her life, Spaghetti O had people fighting for her.

She had food in her belly.

She had medication to soothe her painful skin.

She had a veterinary team making sure she received everything her body needed.

She had a soft place to rest.

And she had an entire community of people rooting for her.

This sweet little low-rider very quickly stole all of our hearts.

Despite everything she had endured—the pain, itching, discomfort, neglect, and loneliness—Spaghetti O remained one of the gentlest, sweetest little dogs you could ever meet.

Slowly, Her Little Body Began to Heal

We knew Spaghetti O’s recovery wouldn’t happen overnight.

Her skin had been neglected for far too long, and healing would take time. But now, she didn’t have to do it alone.

Little by little, things began to change.

Her skin started healing.

Her coat began growing back.

She became more comfortable.

And underneath all of that neglect, this precious, funny, beautiful little dog began to emerge.

The sad little girl who had once been wandering alone and suffering was finally learning what it meant to feel good.

To feel safe.

To be cared for.

To be loved.

And then came the ending we had hoped for from the very beginning.

Spaghetti O Found Her Forever Mom

Spaghetti O was adopted.

Today, our precious little piggy girl is living the very best life with her new forever mom.

She isn’t wandering the streets anymore.

She isn’t sitting behind kennel bars waiting for someone to notice her.

Her skin is no longer one giant source of pain.

She has a home.

She has comfort.

She has safety.

She has a mom who loves her.

And most importantly, she knows she belongs.

Sometimes we look back at those first photographs of Spaghetti O and can hardly believe they are the same dog.

This is why we rescue.

It is for the dog sitting alone in a shelter kennel whose body has been neglected for so long that it feels impossible to imagine her healthy.

It is for the dog wandering the streets when no one seems to be looking for her.

It is for the dog who has every reason in the world to stop trusting people—and somehow still rests her head against the kennel bars and hopes someone kind will come.

Spaghetti O’s story didn’t end with neglect.

It didn’t end in that kennel.

It ended with a family.

Or maybe this isn’t the ending at all.

Maybe this is finally the beginning of the life Spaghetti O was always supposed to have.

To every person who donated, shared her story, sent prayers, positive thoughts, healing energy, and loving wishes her way: thank you.

You helped us change the trajectory of this little dog’s entire life.

Because of you, Spaghetti O was no longer alone.

Because of you, she was given the chance to heal.

And today, because people cared enough to say yes to her, Spaghetti O is home.

Safe. Healthy. Adored.

And living her very best life with her forever mom.

Exactly where she belongs.
