BECOME A FOSTER HERO
Every day, dogs and cats in shelters are overlooked; not because they aren’t loving or worthy, but because we don’t have enough foster homes to save them. Fostering gives them a critical bridge between rescue and adoption. It’s one of the most powerful and rewarding ways to make a lasting impact.
WE URGENTLY NEED FOSTERS
Our animals are waiting, not just for homes but for hope. As a foster, you become their safe place during uncertain times. Many of our dogs require assistance learning basic skills such as leash walking or simply trusting humans again. Some may have just lost the only family they have ever known. With your patience and compassion, you can help turn their story around.
WHY FOSTER?
Fostering is a short-term commitment with life-changing results. It’s not a trial run for adoption, it’s an act of love. You’re giving an animal a second chance at life while helping them transition into their future, forever home. We’ll match you with a dog that fits your lifestyle, and our team will support you every step of the way.
Fostering can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks, depending on your availability and the animal’s needs.
FOSTER REQUIREMENTS
To join our foster program, you must:
- Be 21 years or older
- Live within NJ, NY, PA, GA, CT

- Only fostering a dog from HiP, as we do not know other rescue protocols
- Have the consent of all household members & if a renter, the landlord
- Be available for a phone interview (with any co-foster involved in care) and virtual home check

NOT READY TO COMMIT TO FULL-TIME FOSTERING?
That’s okay — we also urgently need short-term, or fill-in fosters. Whether it’s a weekend, a few days, or a week while another foster is away, your time can make a life-changing difference for a dog in need.
All of our dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated before they arrive in your home.
We know fostering can be both incredibly rewarding and sometimes challenging — that’s why you’re never in it alone. We have professional trainers on staff and a dedicated support team to help you and your foster dog succeed every step of the way.

STAYING ACTIVE ON THE FOSTER LIST
If you decline three consecutive foster offers within six months, we will assume you are taking a break and remove you from our active roster. You are always welcome to reapply when you’re ready.
YOU COULD BE THE FIRST KINDNESS THEY’VE EVER KNOWN
Your role as a foster may be the very thing that helps a pet learn that the world isn’t so scary. That people can be good. That they are safe, loved, and ready for their next chapter.
Are you ready to be that person?
